Zurich Film Festival will honor Hans Zimmer

The third International Film Music Competition will be held during the 10th Zurich Film Festival and will bring with it legendary cinema composer Hans Zimmer, who will be honoured with a special Lifetime Award.
The International Film Music Competition is an exceedingly popular, one-of-a-kind program running congruently with ZFF’s ‘celebration of cinema’ and is organized and run in collaboration with Forum Filmmusik and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, which alternates its program duties with the Zürcher Kammerorchester ZKO.
This year, the International Film Music Competition entrants have been given the task of writing a score for symphony orchestra for the six-minute short film MAXIMALL from Axel Tillement, Axel Cheriet, Hadrien Ledieu and Nawel Rahal.
Endowed with a CHF 10,000 cash prize, the Golden Eye for ‘Best International Film Music 2014’ and the award for Hans Zimmer will both be presented on Wednesday, October 1st during a public event at the Tonhalle Zürich. The audience can look forward to a magnificent concert evening with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich performing the works of the five competition finalists, as well as excerpts from some of Hans Zimmer’s most legendary scores, such as those for THE LION KING and GLADIATOR. The International Film Music Competition welcomes the presence of a true superstar of film music, scheduled to receive a Lifetime Award from Zurich Film Festival -- German-born Hans Zimmer, one of the most innovative, creative and celebrated film music composers and producers of our time. Hans Zimmer has scored more than 100 films, which have, combined, grossed over 22 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. He has been honored with an Academy Award®, two Golden Globes®, three Grammys®, an American Music Award, and a Tony® Award. In 2003, ASCAP presented him with the prestigious Henry Mancini award for Lifetime Achievement for his impressive and influential body of work. He also received his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2010.
Some of his most recent works include The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Steve McQueen’s 12 YEARS A SLAVE, Ron Howard’s Rush, Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL, History Channel’s miniseries THE BIBLE; the Christopher Nolan-directed films INCEPTION, THE DARK KNIGHT and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES; and Guy Ritchie’s SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS. Some of Zimmer’s most notable works include his scores for RAIN MAIN, DRIVING MISS DAISY, THELMA & LOUISE, CRIMSON TIDE, THE THIN RED LINE, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II, HANNIBAL, PEAL HARBOR, TEARS OF THE SUN, SPANGLISH, THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise, the KUNG FU PANDA and MADAGASCAR films, FROST/NIXON, SHERLOCK HOLMES and THE DA VINCI CODE.
Zimmer is currently in production on the score for Christopher Nolan’s INTERSTELLAR, releasing in November 2014.
