On the fourth day of the Festival new authors whose films are on today’s program introduced themselves to the press.

Shira Geffen, director of 'Jellyfish', came to Zagreb without her husband Etgar Keret, film co-director and author of a short story turned into a film by Goran Dukić, 'Wristcutters: A Love Story' Shira, who also wrote the screenplay for 'Jellyfish' began by saying: 'So far I've worked in theatre, this is my first excursion into the world of film. Theater direction is simpler, there is much more time for creative work and less pressure from the producers because the budget is smaller. But making a film was a wonderful experience.' The film was awarded Golden Camera in Cannes and a screenplay award. Asked what she expected of Zagreb audience, Shira responded: 'Merely to enjoy the movie!'

John Comerford, director of short film 'Stone' joined us from Scotland. 'This film is about my father really. I used it to address the complex relationships between different generations. Each generation believes to be better than the previous ones but we end up realizing that there is a lot we can learn from our seniors.'

The 'Elections' Program was announced by its selector Dinko Tucaković, Program Director of Yugoslav Film Archives. 'The program is controversial because we are launching it shortly before the elections in your country, but also because the selection includes films belonging to different eras and different countries. For example, young generations didn't have a chance to see 'Croatia 2000' and it is interesting to hear what the politicians were saying seven, eight years ago. It was a very provocative film for its time.'

Short film 'What Do I Know' is the first Bosnian film in 26 years to enter competition at the Venice Mostra, after 'Do You Remember Dolly Bell?'. It was announced by one of its directors, Timur Makarević, and the film producer Amra Bakšić Čamo. 'The story of entangled love stories takes place in a family house. The roles are played by children between 9 and 14 years of age, appearing on film for the first time', said Timur. Amra Bakšić Čamo commented the significance of Sarajevo Film Festival for the Bosnian film industry: 'SFF grew together with Bosnian and regional film production and has become an important platform for their further growth and, not seldom, a spring board for young authors.'

Lazar Lalić and Nikola Lalić, familiar to Zagreb audiences as makers of the ZFF 2005 Festival hit 'Made in Serbia' announced their most recent work, 'Echo'. 'We attempted to draw a parallel between the Serbian daily life and that of patients at 'Laza Lazarević' psychiatric clinic in Belgrade. We combined archive speeches by Serbian politicians with the patients' life stories. Nowadays there is a very fine line between mental sickness and health and we've used this film to open a discussion about these two categories and deal with prejudices we all have about the mentally ill.'

Young Greek director Konstantinos Antonopoulos presented his film dealing with the communication breakdown, 'Can't Play the Piano'. 'This is my first short film and ZFF is my first international film festival. 'At the press conference the director was joined by film cinematographer Gregory Rentis.
