Winners Joseph Plateau Awards

The Alzheimer Case Best Belgian film 2003.

With four Awards (out of five nominations), and the Box Office Award THE ALZHEIMER CASE by Erik Van Looy is the great winner of this year’s Belgian Oscars, the Joseph Plateau Awards. All films released between January 1st and December 31 2003 were eligible for nominations. The Joseph Plateau Awards Ceremony is an organization of the Flanders International Film Festival Ghent.

Nominated in four categories, The Alzheimer Case won just as much Joseph Plateau awards: Best Belgian Film, Best Belgian Director (Erik van Looy), Best Belgian Screenplay (Carl Joos & Van Looy) and veteran actor Jan Decleir was named Best Belgian Actor 2003 for his portrayal of contract killer Ledda who suffers from Alzheimer disease. The film also won the and the Joseph Plateau Box Office Award.

Any Way The Wind Blows the debut feature by singer songwriter Tom Barman won two awards: Best Actress (Nathalie Broods) and Best music (Tom Barman).

For the second year in a row there were also awards distributed for Flemish TV-productions. In the category Best Flemish TV-drama, the award went to Flikken (Cops). Best Flemish TV-Comedy is Het Peulengaleis by Bart Peeters and Hugo Mathysen. Best TV-actress and TV-actor both went to actors from Het Peulengaleis, Tine Embrechts and Warre Borgmans.

The Joseph Plateau Ceremony is an organization of the Flanders International Film Festival Ghent. "There used to be a lot of confusion between the Joseph Plateau Awards for Best Belgian Films and the awards that are handed out during the festival for winners in the feature film competition "The Impact Of Music On Film. That’s why last year we choose to have the ceremony no longer in the framework of the October festival", explains secretary general of the festival Jacques Dubrulle.
