Wim Wenders was one of the first filmmakers invited by the Lumière Institute in 1991 for a retrospective and a photographic exhibition. He has since never returned to the Rue du Premier-Film. Honouring this travelling filmmaker, a multi-faceted virtuoso and visionary - an accomplished photographer who has never ceased to reinvent himself and who has lived a thousand lives - in Lyon, the birthplace of the Lumière Cinematograph, has been an obvious choice for a long time.
