Vesoul Film Festival of Asian Cinema Awards delivered

Vesoul 13th International Film Festival of Asian Cinema
(from 13th to 20th february 2007)

The audience reached 23 000 for this 13th festival, with an increase of 9,5 %

PALMARES 2007

GOLDEN CYCLO OF HONOUR sponsored by the City and Agglomeration of Vesoul to Wu Tianming for his entire work

GOLDEN CYCLO Award sponsored by the Conseil Régional de Franche-Comté and granted by the International Jury with Chinese director Xie Fei as Chairman, Mrs Houda Ibrahim (Lebanon), Mrs Defné Gürsoy (Turkey) et Mr Dilip Varma (India) :
"OUT OF SIGHT" by Daniel Syrkin (Israel), for its capacity to treat a difficult subject with sensibilty and professionalism.
International Jury 's Grand Prize: "ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON" by Mona Zandi Haghighi (Iran) for dealing with a taboo subject with strength and courage.
Special Mention: "CHASMA",The Source by Yolkin Tuytchiev (Uzbekistan). The Jury has granted a special mention to Chasma for its originality.

NETPAC Award (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) represented by Mrs Aruna Vasudev (India), Mr. Eduardo Lejano (Philippines) and Mrs Brigitte de La Royère (Belgium) :
"KANTATAR", Barbed Wire, by Bappaditya Bandopadhyay (India) for the deceptively simple style with which the director exposes the complex situation of people trapped in a state of permanent displacement.

Emile Guimet Award (granted by the Friends of National Museum of Asian Arts of Paris) :
"BES VAKIT, Times and Winds" by Reha Erdem (Turkey)
Painting, music and poetry... A rare film dealing with a social and cultural matter which could have seemed ordinary, were it not for the exceptional images and musical background.
Guimet special favourite : "MY MOTHER IS A BELLY DANCER" by Lee Kung Lok and Wong Ching Po (Hong Kong)
Far from being a simple entertainment, this film dealing with a serious subject, revealing an original story and talented actor, is a major work.

INALCO Jury Award (granted by the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations, Paris) : "OUT OF SIGHT" by Daniel Syrkin (Israel).
The metaphor is materialised in an inventive way by this young director's debut film.

Langues 'O Special favourite : "ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON" by Mona Zandi Haghighi (Iran)
for the tragic dimension of the story.

Audience Award (granted by the city of Vesoul) for feature films: "ADIEU LA VIE", Goodbye Life, by Ensieh Shah Hosseini (Iran)
Audience Award for documentary films: "BONNE A VENDRE", To Be Sold, by Dima Al-Joundi (Lebanon)

Youth Award (granted by the commune): MADE IN CHINA by Jean-Yves Cauchard.

The awarded films will be screened at Musée Guimet of Asian Arts, Paris, on 14th, 15th and 16th March 2007

Vesoul 14th International Film Festival of Asian Cinema will be held from 29th January to 5th February 2008
