FEMA is happy to pay tribute to a fascinating and prolific young filmmaker who, for the past several years, has been the figurehead of the renewal of Kazakh cinema on the international scene: Adilkhan Yerzhanov.

First noticed for his third feature film, The Owners, shown at the Festival de Cannes in 2014, he achieved glory with The Gentle Indifference of the World, a flamboyant poetic fable about a corrupt world, selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2018. He returned with the shadowy crime story A Dark, Dark Man and last year at the Rotterdam Film Festival presented Assault, continuing to expand his singular tragicomic body of work.

Adilkhan Yerzhanov will be in La Rochelle to present 7 feature films from his already-rich filmography, including Ademoka and Assault, both preview screenings before their theatrical release on July 12 by Destiny Films, as well as his documentary on the history of Kazakh cinema. The filmmaker will also participate in a Q&A hosted by Eugénie Zvonkine, lecturer at University Paris 8 and film critic.
