For the first time Krakow Film Festival will present feature–length documentaries in a competitive section. Ten films from amongst 200 have been chosen by Krzysztof Gierat – Festival Director. These documentaries are a real must for the audience of the 47th Krakow Film Festival. Diversity of the topics mentioned and courage of the directors to raise controversial issues make these screenings strong points of the Festival’s programme.

Krzysztof Gierat says: The thing that interests me while watching documentaries is a truth about a man as an individual. I believe that a documentary film can be a fiction, a comedy, a biography, even a musical still being a documentary. I constantly look for finely presented stories and sophisticated approach to the film narration.

Films in the competition won’t leave you indifferent, however, no cheap thrills are served, instead of them you’ll discover a profound reflection about human existence.

Characters from these documentaries are from all-over the world, represent different cultural backgrounds, different religions and mentalities but they have one thing in common – fascinating stories of their lives that demand being told. They travel in search of new experiences or forgotten past (“Tailor – Made Dreas” dir. Marco Wilms, “Souvenirs” dir. Shahar Cohen, Halil Efrat), they struggle with illnesses (“Wojonik” dir. Jacek Bławut) or addictions (“Spływ” dir. Jan Komasa, “Jimmy Rosenberg – the Father, the Son & the Talent” dir. Jeroen Berkvens), they love and suffer (“Miss Universe 1929 – Lisl Goldarbeiter. A Queen in Wien” dir. Peter Forgacs) – do all the things that are so common but at the same time very unusual.
