Paul Trijbits, Head of the UK Film Council˜s New Cinema Fund said: "We are delighted for Pawel Pawlikovwski in winning this year's award for My Summer of Love, following his success here in Edinburgh with The Last Resort. The quality and diversity of films selected for this award for Best New British Feature Film show the creativity of filmmakers working in the UK in bringing stories to the screen that are relevant to audiences in the UK and worldwide. This is further underlined by the unprecedented number of nine UK Film Council-backed films that have been selected for the next major world-class film festival in Toronto. At Edinburgh's festival debate on British cinema, industry executives and critics alike agreed that the UK was producing some of the best cinema in the world and therefore this year's award reflects a true celebration of British filmmaking."

Pawel Pawlikowski won the Michael Powell Award in 2000 with The Last Resort
