The Doors, When You’re Strange, exhibition 9th July - 5th Sept

To coincide with the theatrical release of “When You’re Strange”, Idea Generation Gallery will have an intimate look into the controversial band, The Doors.

Alongside the first feature documentary on The Doors, When You’re Strange, Idea Generation tells the story of one of America’s most ‘‘dark and dangerous bands’’. This exhibition will offer an intimate account of the life of The Doors, from their rise to fame to their breakthrough on the music scene in 1965. Revealing intimate portraits of Jim Morrison and how he became one of the most controversial lead vocalists to exist. Idea Generation Gallery will showcase the photography of the lenses of 5 of their favourite photographers, who documented the bands time together.
Alongside their most celebrated works, When You’re Strange brings together the lesser known archives and previously unseen contact sheets of photography taken over a decade.

The Works presents a film that uses only original footage shot between 1966 and 1971. Director Tom DiCillo presents the band and 1960’s America with the urgency and immediacy of today. With a narration written by DiCillo and spoken by Johnny Depp, the film opens a window into the band’s world of fame, drugs and alcohol but always returns to their fierce commitment to their music.
