The 29th Annual Mountainfilm Goes Green in 2007

Memorial Day Weekend Kicks Off the Annual Film Festival with the Moving Mountains Symposium on Energy Followed with More Than 60 Independent Films

Mountainfilm, America's premier showcase for independent films dealing with world cultures, adventure and the environment, will take place Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, Colo. The festival begins with the Moving Mountains Symposium on Energy on May 25 and is followed by a host of activities and more than 60 independent films by filmmakers from around the world.
The featured films will focus on environmental concerns but will also include independent films and documentaries about world cultures and adventure. Films are still being accepted for submission and a final list will be released in the coming weeks. For more information on the featured films and the submission process, visit http://www.mountainfilm.org.

"Mountainfilm is dedicated to educating and inspiring audiences about issues that matter. Energy, and its attendant issues, such as climate change, affects each one of us and, in turn, is affected by each one of us. This year the symposium that kicks off our annual film festival will focus on energy and feature leaders in various fields who are working towards one common goal - helping to curb and reverse global warming," said Peter Kenworthy, executive director, Mountainfilm. "These leaders along with our filmmakers embody what Mountainfilm celebrates - indomitable spirit."

A few of the leaders involved with the Moving Mountains Symposium on Energy include:

-- Author and strident social critic James Kunstler, who wrote The Geography of Nowhere and The Long Emergency

-- Diplomat, editor, author, investment banker and Peace Corps director Richard Holbrooke, who served as Assistant Secretary of State for both Asia and Europe

-- Dr. Paul MacCready, physicist, meteorologist, aeronautical and environmental inventor, whose human and solar-powered airplanes are world-record winners

-- Leonardo Maugeri, senior vice president in charge of strategies and development for the Italian energy firm Eni, and author of The Age of Oil: The Mythology, History and Future of the World's Most Controversial Resource

-- MIT energy and chemistry professor Dr. Daniel Nocera, who hopes to use solar power to split water into its basic components, hydrogen and oxygen, and use the elements to supply clean-running fuel cells

-- William Henry "Trey" Taylor III, co-founder of Verdant Power, Inc., a sustainable energy company that produces hydroelectric power without dams

-- Neville Williams, a consultant to the U.S. Department of Energy under President Carter and currently Chairman and CEO of The Solar Electric Light Company, whose book Chasing The Sun recounts the author's 12-year quest to bring solar power and light to people in the developing world who have no electricity
