Live Comedy Showcase and Awards

An in person evening of outstanding film and comedy!

Closing night begins with Close Ties to Home Country, a charming short comedy about an immigrant dog walker who finds home in the hearts of rich people’s dogs. 2021 Student Academy Awards Finalist. Filmmaker Akanksha Cruczynski is scheduled to attend for a post-film Q&A. View the trailer.

Americanish – Directed by Iman Zawahry, USA, 91 minutes
In Jackson Heights, Queens, sisters Maryam and Sam and their fresh off the boat cousin Ameera, try all the conventional ways to earn the love and respect of the matriarch of their family — only to learn that life works out in the most unconventional ways. The film highlights the rarely seen perspective of American Muslim women as they intersect with cultural and societal expectations.

Actor/writer Aizzah Fatima scheduled to attend for a post-film Q&A.

Closing night festivities will continue after the film with the Tasveer Audience and Jury awards as well as the Tasveer Film Fund winner followed by a live comedy show presented by the Desi Girl Comedy Project with Zubi Ahmed and Sonal Aggarwal. Americanish writer/actor Aizzah Fatima will perform her show “Dirty Paki Laundry'' as part of the comedy showcase.

These outstanding comedians and filmmakers are available for interviews to discuss their work.

All Access Passes for the 2021 Tasveer Festival are $100 and can be purchased online at https://tasveerfestival.org/ticket/. Each pass allows full access to all Tasveer Festival online programs including 80+ compelling independent South Asian films, dozens of literary readings and discussions, and brand new storytelling programs. Note: Members are entitled to a $25 discount. Individual tickets to screenings are also available.

HOW TO VIEW
All Tasveer Festival events can be streamed on mobile devices, tablets, computers and will also be available to view on Roku and Fire TV apps. In its 16^th year, Tasveer Festival showcases the best in South Asian film, literature, and storytelling in a SXSW-style festival, permeating the month of October with arts and culture. Tasveer provides a platform to amplify under-represented South Asian voices, place a spotlight on South Asian artists, and create a safe space for dialogue within our communities. For the first time, three beloved festivals have joined forces for one incredible event!
