Stephen Frears first Patron of Met Film School

AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR STEPHEN FREARS BECOMES PATRON OF THE MET FILM SCHOOL

Ealing Studios–based Met Film School are thrilled to announce that award-winning director Stephen Frears has become the first Patron of the school.

Stephen Frears, whose recently acclaimed feature The Queen won actress Helen Mirren an Oscar and BAFTA for Best Actress, will not only be an excellent ambassador for the school but will also take an active role in debates and conversations about the future shape of the school and will be lending his support and advice to the school directors in the continued development of film training programmes at the Met.

Stephen is one if the UK’s most respected and experienced filmmakers; having shot to recognition in 1985 as Director of the critically acclaimed feature My Beautiful Laundrette, Stephen has continued to receive the highest critical praise throughout his career for films including High Fidelity, Dangerous Liaisons and Dirty Pretty Things.

Stephen comments “Alexander Mackendrick said: film writing and directing cannot be taught, only learned. At the Met Film School, you'll spend most of your time making films with the support of professional filmmakers. I don't know any other way to learn”.

Jonny Persey, Director of the Met Film School, comments “We are delighted that Stephen has agreed to become the Patron of the school. When we first started talking to him about the school we realised what a perfect fit he would be as our Patron; his beliefs about film education fit so neatly with our own approach. Stephen’s experience and stature will be invaluable to the school as we continue to develop our film training programmes, and we look forward to working with him in continuing to build innovative, industry-relevant programmes for our students”.
