Sacramento French Film Fest line up

THE SACRAMENTO FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL(Voted Best Film Festival in Sacramento – SN&R 2007) IS COMING, JULY 18 - 27, 2008

The 7th SACRAMENTO FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL will include premieres of the newest films by France's best filmmakers; rare classics by French cinema masters; our infamous Midnight Movies followed by discussions over coffee and pastries; local & French short films; post-screening discussions for cinéphiles; an exhibition of original artworks by Sacramento artists in the lobby of the Crest; a raffle for a chance to win two round-trip tickets to Paris on Air France and a Fashion Show on July 20th!
FILM SELECTION!
The 2008 film selection will be our most eclectic ever, with a fantastic choice of Comedies - Drama - Romance - Adventure - Documentaries - Horror! - Kids' Movies.

Opening Night
• The 7th Sacramento French Film Festival will open on Friday, July 18th, at 6pm with a fabulous opening reception, followed at 8:30pm by the Sacramento premiere of OSS 117: CAIRO, NEST Of SPIES, the hilarious spy-spoof comedy (the funniest film we ever showed!) that enchanted France in 2007, starring France's darling actor, Jean Dujardin.
Closing Night
• A SECRET, by Claude Miller, a deeply moving story of passion and guilt set during World War II (Nominated for 11 Césars in 2008, winner for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Julie Depardieu. Winner Grand Prix des Amériques, Montreal World Film Festival 2007), will close the 7th SFFF on Sunday, July 27th, followed by a champagne party.
The selection of premieres will include 6 other features
• HER NAME IS SABINE, a moving documentary directed by actress Sandrine Bonnaire who filmed her autistic sister Sabine over a period of 25 years.
• HEARTBEAT DETECTOR, a fascinating and challenging social thriller with a troubling conclusion, by Nicolas Klotz. Critics Award, São Paulo International Film Festival.
• THE GROCER'S SON by young director Eric Guirado, a light and enchanting comedy that will take you on a vacation in the French countryside.
• THE LAST MISTRESS, the latest film by Catherine Breillat, a sultry and provocative costume drama.
• THE SECRET OF THE GRAIN by Abdelatif Kechiche, an unforgettable film winner of four 2008 Césars (French Academy Awards) including Best Film and Best Director. Voted Best Film in 2008 by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics. Prix Louis Delluc 2007. FIPRESCI Prize, Venice International Film Festival 2007.
• HUNTING & GATHERING, a feel-good comedy by Claude Berri, starring Audrey Tautou. Winner César 2007 for Best Promising Actor for Laurent Stocker. Winner Best Actor for Guillaume Canet, Cabourg Romantic Film Festival 2007
Our infamous midnight movies will present 2 faces of French horror movies
• EYES WITHOUT A FACE (1960), the poetic horror cult movie by Georges Franju will play on Saturday July 19th.
• HIGH TENSION (2003), the first French slasher film (with a twist) by Alexandre Aja, will make you shiver on Saturday, July 26th.
The SFFF will present 5 diverse classics
• THE RED BALLOON (1956) & WHITE MANE (1953), a double feature for children and adults alike, by Albert Lamorisse. Perfect for kids of all ages, no dialogues & no subtitles! Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, 1957 Palme d'Or for Best Short Film, Cannes International Film Festival 1956, Prix Louis Delluc 1956 / Prix Jean Vigo 1953. Winner Grand Prize for Best Short Film, Cannes International Film Festival 1953.
• 400 BLOWS (1959), Francois Truffaut's touching first film, requested by many of our patrons. Winner Best Director, Cannes Film Festival 1959. Voted Best Film in 1960 by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics.
• 2 films by American expatriate in Paris, legendary photographer and filmmaker William Klein: MISTER FREEDOM (1969), a political cartoonish satire on American imperialism & WHO ARE YOU POLLY MAGOO? (1966) an extravagant & caustic homage to fashion. Prix Jean Vigo 1965. POLLY MAGOO will be part of a SPECIAL EVENING OF FRENCH FASHION & CINEMA and preceded by a FASHION SHOW, live on the stage of the Crest Theatre!
A short film program, comprising award-winning French short films and local short films with a "French flavor", complete the 2008 program.
All Films are presented in French with English subtitles (with the exception of Mister Freedom, presented in English with French subtitles).
