Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Roland Emmerich will speak on 10.000 B.C.at fmx/07.

On the final day of the conference, May 04, he will take part in a discussion with Thomas Lechner from the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg and give his personal opinion about effects, animation and digital techniques.

Roland Emmerich started his career in Germany. He studied Film at the HFF Munich and opened the Berlinale in 1984 with his thesis work Das Arche-Noah-Prinzip. The film was a great success and was sold in over 20 countries. Emmerich then grounded his own production company, Centropolis Film Productions and released his films Joey, Ghost Chase and Moon 44. His first hit in America was in 1992 with Universal Soldier, followed by Stargate (1994). Independence Day in 1996 has been his biggest commercial success to date – the film grossed internationally over 800 million dollars and made Emmerich one of the leading directors in Hollywood. Independence Day and Godzilla which was released 2 years later highlighted Emmerich as a leading producer and director. In 2000 he released The Patriot with Mel Gibson, which he also directed and produced. In 2004 came the film The Day After Tomorrow, a film about global climate change. Emmerich has also made Trade – Welcome to America, a film about the sex slave industry on the Mexican border which will be released this year. At the moment, Roland Emmerich is working on 10.000 B.C., which is in postproduction in London.
