Punto de Vista Docu Fest to screen 603

Festival Internacional de Cine Documental Punto de Vista
Pamplona (Spain), 13-21 February 2009

Over six-hundred -603- documentary films have been entered into the Punto de Vista Documentary Film Festival. The event, organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism-Príncipe de Viana Institution, will be held between 13 and 21 February 2009.
227 documentary short films and 376 documentary feature films from 62 countries have entered the competition. Of the 603 films to compete in the Festival's official selection, 185 were produced in Spain, 33 in Italy and France, 29 in Germany, 26 in Argentina, 23 in Poland, 22 in Great Britain, and 21 in the US. Belgium and Israel submitted 18 films each; the Netherlands, 17; Switzerland and Mexico, 11 each; and Brazil, Chile, Portugal and Russia, 10. Canada and Colombia entered 9 films each, ; Serbia, 7; Australia, Cuba, India and Venezuela, 6; the Philippines, 5; Greece, 4; Finland, China, Hungary, Bolivia, Japan and Turkey, 3. The following countries have submitted 2 documentaries each: Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Iran, Ireland, Morocco, Norway, Panama, Romania, and Thailand. Finally, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Kenya, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden, Taiwan, Tunisia, Ukraine and Uruguay have entered one film each. 25 finalists will be selected to compete for the Festival's Awards.
AWARDS
The finalists will compete for the following awards: Punto de Vista Grand Award to Best Film, which gives out 10,000 euros; Jean Vigo Award to Best Director, whose winner receives as much as 5,500 euros; and Award to Best Short Film, giving 3,500. In addition, the Festival will offer two Special Mentions valued at 1,250 euros each. And finally, the People's Choice Award to best film, whose winner gets 2,500 euros.
