Peter Bart Conversation Announced for SXSW 2006

Peter Bart Conversation, Landmark Panel Announced for SXSW 2006

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference & Festival is honored to announce “A Conversation with Peter Bart” to take place during the 2006 panels, scheduled for March 11-14, as part of the annual week-long film event in Austin, TX (March 10-18, 2006).

“We’re so happy to have a Peter Bart panel at SXSW in March,” says Festival Producer Matt Dentler. “This is someone who has had a front-row seat in the film business for decades. He’s been there, he’s done it, and we can’t wait to hear what he has to say about it.”

Bart has been the editor-in-chief of film industry trade magazine Variety since 1989. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he was an integral part of Paramount Pictures, when the studio revolutionized the film industry with groundbreaking releases such as "The Godfather," "Harold and Maude," "Rosemary's Baby" and "Paper Moon." He also published seven popular books on a wide variety of issues related to the film business. Most recently, he's begun co-hosting the movie talk show, "Sunday Morning Shootout."

In addition, SXSW has confirmed a panel discussion entitled “A Landmark Business,” a conversation that will take a look into one of the most newsworthy film distribution models of the last year. A handful of related film companies are joining forces to test a new method for releasing films simultaneously in theaters, on video, and on television. Principal figures of Magnolia Pictures, Landmark Theaters, and HDNet will come together and discuss their strategy for the future of the way audiences see movies.

Other recent panel topics announced include: “Doc Locally, Think Globally,” “Legal Advice for Filmmakers,” and “The Subject of Documentaries.” Plus, SXSW 2006 will feature more one-on-one mentor sessions with industry leaders as well as workshops on acting, screenwriting, and more. Panels are open to all SXSW attendees with a badge. Badges can be order on the official Web site: http://www.sxsw.com.
