NYC Home Film Festival home for the indies

FOR INDIE FILMMAKERS THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
HFF Gears up for NY Run, May 25 and 26,
2 Day Event to Feature Stellar Slate of Short Films

The NYC Home Film Festival gears up for it’s biggest ever exhibition of outstanding short films from around the world. An eagerly awaited annual event for emerging and established filmmakers, industry insiders, and those who appreciate entertainment in all its’ forms. This year’s festival will be a 2 day/2 venue screening celebration, that kicks off on Wednesday, May 25th from 7-10pm, and continues on Thursday, May 26th from 7-10pm. Closing night will be followed by the Awards Ceremony and After-Party 10pm-2am.

Helmed by NYC Home Film Festival Director and founder Gregory Segal, the 2005 Festival will feature a diverse selection of short films from the US, Mexico, Hungary and Norway. These 22 films will compete for the Best Short Film Award, and there will be special screenings of experimental shorts out-of-competition. Further, this year’s program will feature the debut of director, producer and past host John Gallagher’s TV Pilot, Acting Class. Also, up and coming comedian and comic writers, Anthony Devito and Susie Felber, will host the first and second day’s activities, respectively. As entertainment industry veterans, their compelling commentaries are certain to spark lively interchanges at this year’s event.

“Its been great to see the Home Film Festival grow in scope and interest. “ said Segal. “We’re thrilled to have the participation of established film and television industry talent, but we are determined to stay true to our original mission, which is to give talented filmmakers, regardless of background or experience, a venue to show their work. The Festival gets more popular every year, and that’s what it’s all about - increasing exposure, giving emerging filmmakers access to wider audiences.”

“A lot of great filmmakers started out making shorts, and there really are some exceptional films under 30 minutes in length, but there are few venues for them,” said Gallagher. “That’s why The Home Film Festival is so important. It’s a place to see and be seen, an outlet for independent filmmakers to show their work, get feedback, interact and network. I’m not surprised that it’s attracting so much attention.”

The Home Film Festival is in its 6th running. Since it’s inception, it has provided a forum for independent filmmakers and explored, recognized, and rewarded the artistic excellence of their short films. Debuting as a 2-day event, the 2005 HFF is expected to draw record crowds.
