Nancy Buirski Steps Down as Head of Full Frame

Buirski Steps Down as Head of Full Frame Documentary Film Festival
to Consult with Fest and Others.

After ten years of leading the prestigious international documentary film festival Full Frame Documentary Film Festival based in Durham, NC, Nancy Buirski is turning over the reins. She will continue as an advisor and ambassador for the festival and will curate a special sidebar in 2008.

"It has been an enormous accomplishment to have created the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and, through it, to have played a part bringing documentary film and audiences together in theaters across the country,” Buirski says. “Full Frame now serves the independent documentary filmmaker in ways that I could only hope for in 1998, and I know that it will continue to attract an ever-expending public and film community. It is bittersweet to remove myself from the artistic, day-to-day activity of this organization I love, but I am proud and honored to continue my association with this world-class event."

Buirski has wanted to return to her creative roots and felt that the 10-year demarcation was a perfect time to do so. "The talented programming, operational and development teams are positioned to run with the ball, and I look forward to working with them in a new advisory capacity. Knowing that Full Frame is now an institution, I can turn to my other dream which is to nurture independent film projects."

Buirski is in discussion with industry partners to create a fund to incubate and produce independent documentaries and fiction films. She is also a consultant to Pangea Day, the worldwide film event sponsored by TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Conferences. She looks forward to working with filmmakers and other organizations on curatorial, acquisition and production.
