Jameson Short Film Awards in Motovun-Croatia

The Jameson Short Film Award was welcomed for the first time at the 6th Motovun Film Festival in Croatia. During the magical, open-air closing ceremony Goran Devic, of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, was presented with the much coveted prize. His film “Imported Crow” or “Uvozne Vrane” is an ode to nature and man and to the complicated relationship between them. The nuances and delicacy of his film shows this young director is one to watch.

The Jameson Short Film Awards is a joint initiative by European Coordination of Film Festivals and Jameson Irish Whiskey. Jameson Short Film Awards have been welcomed enthusiastically around Europe. The initiative began in 2001 at 8 festivals, continued in 2002 at 10 festivals and included the introduction of "The Jameson Short Film Award Winners on Tour".

The aim of the JSFA is to represent vital support to European filmmakers and European cinema by enhancing the profile of the winning films amongst the industry, the press and the public. A prize of €6,000 and a brand new hand-crafted silver trophy, made by the Irish artist Kevin J. O'Dwyer, goes to the winning film director. This new trophy is topped with a three-dimensional “flight” of sterling silver that evokes now the opening of Europe to the rest of the world and set on a cylindrical plinth of polished Kilkenny limestone.

All winning films in 2004 will be part of next year "JSFA Winners on Tour" in festivals hosting the prize. The Awards will be presented in 15 European festivals, members of the European Coordination of Film Festivals, and in 3 festivals outside of Europe in 2004, including Bangkok, Sao Paolo and Cape Town.
