As filmmakers, film professionals, critics and film buffs descend on Miami for the opening this evening of the 24th edition of the Miami International Film Festival, excitement is building for what promises to be a thrilling and invigorating survey of the world of international cinema. Festivities begin tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts with the Opening Night Gala screening of BLACK BOOK, the latest cinema milestone from veteran director Paul Verhoeven, who will attend, and the film’s distributor, Sony Pictures Classics co-President Michael Barker.

Following the gala screening, audience members are invited to the historic Freedom Tower on Biscayne Boulevard to attend the Gala Black Tie Opening Night Party. This year’s theme is White and Black, with the stunningly decorated 2nd floor of the Freedom Tower provided courtesy of Pedro Martin and David Martin of the Terra Group. Dancing, dining, drinking and schmoozing will be the order of the evening as visiting guests from the world of cinema mix and mingle with movers-and-shakers from Miami’s vibrant cultural, political and social set.
