Meisjes to open Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg

Senior rock stars having a blast - The 58th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg 2009 opens with European Premiere „MEISJES/ The Over the Hill Band“ by Geoffrey Enthoven

With filmmaker Geoffrey Enthoven and the main actors of the film present, the European Premiere of „MEISJES“ from Belgium will open the 58th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg on November 5, 2009 in Heidelberg. The story about a former girl group reuniting after 50 years runs outside competition in the festival programme.

„With an assured sense of style and taste Enthoven has shot yet another beautiful comedy about aging with dignity and about music as a fountain of youth“, says Dr. Michael Kötz, the festival’s director. „A mystery to us, Enthoven hasn’t been discovered by the big festivals yet. We can continue to celebrate him as one of our discoveries at least for a little while longer.“

About the film
At the funeral services for her deceased husband, Claire meets two girlfriends with whom she founded the girl group „Sisters of Love“ half a century ago. She would like to give a push to her son Sid’s career as a musician and suggest to her friends to perform one more time. But Sid is not easily convinced. Also, he is quite comfortably set in his lack of success. Artistic differences need to be overcome. The classic tunes of the former girl group do not quite match Sid’s techno style. Somehow yet the protagonists eventually manage to form a winning team. At the „Talents of Tomorrow“ competition, the „Over The Hill Band“ makes a memorable impression.

About the filmmaker Geoffrey Enthoven
Geoffrey Enthoven’s first feature film „Children of Love“ won the 2001 Award of the Ghent Film Festival in his homeland Belgium. The audience of the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg knows him from his huge success with the film „Vidange Perdue“ which won the 2006 Main Award of the festival and also featured an „undignified“ old man refusing to abandon and cede to age.

The 58th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg takes place from 5 to 15 November 2009. “Meisjes” will premiere on 5 November 2009 at 8.30 pm at the festival cinema theatre at the Universitätsplatz Heidelberg. Director Enthoven, the main actors and further members f the crew will be present.
