RISKS AND REINVENTION: THE CINEMA OF LOUIS MALLE
June 24 – July 19

The massive Louis Malle retrospective starts this Friday!

A near-complete retrospective of the films of Louis Malle, a major filmmaker who achieved great success in both his native France and his adopted America. Included will be all of his feature films as well as practically all his documentaries, including rare screenings of his seven-hour PHANTOM INDIA.

Highlights include:

- Restored print of ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS, soon to be re-released by Rialto Pictures, and other precursors to the French New Wave: THE LOVERS, ZAZIE IN THE METRO.

- THE SILENT WORLD, Malle's 1956 collaboration with Jacques-Yves Cousteau, which won the Best Documentary Oscar® and the Palme d'Or at Cannes

- Malle's other documentary features: CALCUTTA (1968-69), PLACE DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE (1974), GOD'S COUNTRY (1986), AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS (1987), and the 7-part PHANTOM INDIA.

- And films made in Malle's adopted home America: PRETTY BABY (1978), ATLANTIC CITY (1980), MY DINNER WITH ANDRÉ (1981), and VANYA ON 42ND STREET (1994).
