Late Fragment,an interactive film, to demo in Cannes

CFC Media Lab to demo LATE FRAGMENT, an interactive film at the Get Your Hands on The Future of Cinema Workshop Toronto (May 16, 2008) – CFC (Canadian Film Centre) is pleased to announce their collaboration with Telefilm Canada and Fest21.com on the Future of Cinema Salon Series at Cannes. This think tank on the future of cinema will encompass panel discussions, workshops and screenings.
These sessions will include: MingleTalk, at the Canadian Pavilion on May 20th, 3:00 to 5:00 pm — an event that will be brokering conversations around the future of distribution amongst a varied group of key industry luminaries and The Future of Cinema Blockbuster Panel at the Jean Bory Auditorium, Palais des Festivals on May 21st at 10:00 am, which will bring together international
voices around the table to discuss the need to adapt to the changes being forced upon us by not only technology but also our very own audiences.

Immediately following this presentation at 11:00 am on May 21st at Jean Bory
Auditorium, Palais des Festivals, CFC Media Lab will demo Late Fragment, an
interactive film at the Get Your Hands on The Future of Cinema workshop that
showcases Canadian innovation in film. Late Fragment premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival, and has screened at Montreal’s Festival du nouveau cinema and most recently at the South By Southwest 2008 Film Festival.
Late Fragment, produced by the Canadian Film Centre’s (CFC) Media Lab and the
National Film Board of Canada, boldly pushes storytelling into the realm of digital interactivity. This unique film allows the viewer to control the flow of the story with the click of a button. Late Fragment’s multi-plot, non-linear and interactive narrative lets audiences discover the stories of three strangers. A young mother grappling with loss, a man reconnecting with his troubled son, and a male stripper facing his past — Faye (Krista Bridges), Kevin (Michael Healy) and Theo (Jeff Parazzo) are drawn together as
participants in a restorative justice process, where victims and offenders share their stories. Written and directed by three directors (Anita Doron, Daryl Cloran, and Mateo Guez), the stories intertwine according to the viewer’s guidance, on a path to either redemption, reconciliation, or revenge.

Late Fragment is the first project conceived, through the CFC Media Lab’s Interactive Narrative Feature Program (INFP), which experiments with the creation, development, production, financing, marketing and distribution of interactive feature films.
