Cinema and its locations are the heart and soul of Ischia Film Festival, event that dates back to 2003 and has since become an illustrious reality gathering fascinating voices of the Industry and legions of cinephiles from all over the world. Also focused on the impact of audiovisual productions on the territories where the works are set, the scope of its studies on the phenomenon of Cinetourism broadens year after year. 

Twenty years of steady growth, great international cinema and Hollywood legends. Ischia Film Festival cuts the line of its twentieth edition on June 25, 2022. IFF, which has its ancestral home in the Aragonese Castle of Ischia, will end on July 2 and host screenings, meetings and the traditional Film Cocktails with the authors, as well as several collateral initiatives. 

«This year is very special to us all. It is the twentieth anniversary of a Festival that has served as a wind-rose and an harbor in the Mediterranean sea for voices from all over the world. We’ve welcomed hundreds of thousands of cinephiles for over two decades, eager to meet the legends of the Seventh Art and take part to our screenings. The numbers tell us that this Twentieth Edition is a new starting point, for us. Our eyes are fixed on the horizon, that ever-changing line so dear to Ischia Film Festival, which is an event that speaks to and for cinema locations. The steady and affectionate participation of the audience makes us want to give them more and more», said Michelangelo Messina, founder and artistic director of Ischia Film Festival.

The Aragonese Castle turns, once again, into a “cinema fortress” and offers a wide-ranging program thought for its three movie theaters under the stars: the Place d’Arms, the Terrace of the Sun and the Cathedral.

The program for 2022 includes 91 works representing all the languages of Cinema; 57 will be screened at the Castle and 34 will be available online.
There will be 78 premieres subdivided into the competitive sections — their evaluation entrusted to a jury of experts — Feature Films, Shorts, Location Denied and Scenari Campani, and the non-competitive sections Best of, War Scenarios, Beyond and Out of Competition Scenarios.
These are works submitted from all over the world, embracing a wide range of visions and themes; contemporary events, environment, social commitment and war, never forgetting the importance of an intimate incursion in the depths of the human heart.  

Italy and some of its most representative faces will have a prominent role in the celebratory edition: actors Silvio Orlando, Matilda De Angelis, Massimiliano Gallo, Gianfranco Gallo, director Leonardo Di Costanzo, alongside several pop culture icons, will join the audience and the film critics in conversations about cinema.
Toni Servillo, who has been internationally praised as one of the most influential actors of contemporaneity, will receive the Ischia Film Award.

Among the collateral events, two exhibitions will tell the story of the many faces of the cinematic art; “20 years of Festival in 20 pictures” is a site-specific installation featuring shots of some of the artists that have made the history of Ischia Film Festival, and “Seafront: Italian cinema on beaches and rocks”, curated by Antonio Maraldi, will take the audience on an Italian Holiday.

The Festival will also pay a tribute to its audience by releasing 20 complimentary tickets every morning at 10:00 for the first 20 users requesting them on its native online platform.

The platform (ischiafilmfestivalonline.it), born to allow the many cinephiles kept away from theaters in the age of Coronavirus to access IFF contents remotely, will continue to grant the Festival ever-growing audience the chance to take part to the event from a distance and watch a selection of works from everywhere in the world.

Tickets for the screenings at the Castle will be available on sale and pre-sale at the Info Point of the Festival, located in Piazzale Aragonese, Ischia Ponte.
