International Digital Film Forum in Cannes highlights

For its third edition, IDIFF (International Digital Film Forum) continues its development with a programme of conferences enriched with new themes and with workshops, which give a large place to practice.

IDIFF is a unique event in Europe, entirely dedicated to digital cinema under all its aspects. This year will be marked by the presence of major European an International actors, in the fields of technologies linked to creation, post-production and diffusion. IDIFF, once again settle, from 2 to 4 February 2005, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, emblematic city for cinema.

Fortified by the success of the 2004 edition, IDIFF proposes, still around the triptych “exhibition, conferences, screenings”, a largely renewed and ambitious programme.

Exhibition

Further from the classical concept of exhibition, IDIFF proposes to cinema professionals a real test platform, especially in the fields of acquisition and post-production:

- Camera operators will be able to test the digital cinema cameras available on the market. They will be placed around a cinema set in which actors will play a short scene. We have entrusted a director and a cinematographer in order to fit with the expectations and problems of professionals.

- Some 70 seats auditoriums (6m wide screens) will be equipped with digital colour grading systems and DLP cinema projectors. The performances of such equipments will be demonstrated, either on images originated from 35 mm prints or on images shot with the digital cameras presented at IDIFF.

Conferences

IDIFF continues to explore the mutations generated by digital technologies in cinema with the conferences Acquisition/Post-production and Distribution/Exhibition to which a session dedicated to Special effects will be added.

Organised by the city of Cannes in the framework of IDIFF, the conference on protection of cinematographic works will be the occasion to present the technological and methodological solutions to fight against film piracy. More generally, a reflection will be carried out on the evolution of the economic models of this sector.

Screenings

The IDIFF screenings are aimed at showing, before their commercial releases, films from different origins: all digital or hybrid. Professionals and spectators will discover, in exceptional screening conditions, the future of diffusion in cinemas.
