3rd Annual Surf Theatre Film Festival during the US Open of Surfing

Each year over a half a million people come to see the best of the best compete in the US Open Surf Championships held in Surf City Huntington Beach, Ca. If you’re surfing during the day, what does a champion surfer do at night? You watch the best of the best in surf films.
Once again for the third year, Big Red Productions will present the 3rd Annual Surf Film Festival at the Mann Theater directly across from the Huntington Beach Pier. With the dynamic contest taking place at the pier and with the multitudes of surfers, spectators and surf industry on hand this is the place to be in the evening. Where else can one find the top professional surfers, skaters, bmx’ers moto-x riders and beach volleyball players in one place plus over 600,000 of their fans?
Theses films are the newest and best from all over the world including World Premiers and classic tributes to icons in the action sport surf industry. Each evening two different films screening and many of them will have the filmmaker and cast on hand to personally meet and answer questions afterwards. Big Red is supporting a multi sensory experience to the audience as each evening live bands will perform only adding to the annual event.
For four nights starting Tuesday July 26th to Friday July 29th the Mann Theater will beckon people out of the water to a surf film fest, will audience participation. As viewers watch 50ft waves with well known surfers careen down the water walls of power you’re encourage to hoot and holler for your favorite rides and groan for the knarly wipe outs. Top surfing from, Brazil, Austrialia, Tahiti, Fiji and Hawaii will make this a world wide who's who of surfing film event.
Here are the films slated to screen for the annual Surf Film Festival:
Opening night: Tuesday, July 26th
7 PM Studio 411 Productions presents ALL ABOARD THE CRAZY TRAIN, the latest big wave surf film from Bam Man productions featuring Laird Hamilton, Dave Kalama, Darrick Doerner and others in never before seen footage of Peahi, Maui during the historic winters of 2004 and 2005.
9 PM: Studio 411 Productions presents a documentary capturing the true essence of skateboarding through the eyes and mind of legendary skater Bob Burnquist. THE REALITY OF BEING BOB includes the first-ever corkscrew attempt and skating the world’s biggest ramp!
Wednesday, July 27th
7 PM: US Surf Team Fundraiser featuring video footage from the last year of team competition, team autographs and interviews.
9 PM: 5 SUMMER STORIES, the classic by Greg MacGillivray and Jim Freeman. Summer, not a season, but a state of mind. “The Best Surfing Film ever made!”
Thursday, July 28th
7 PM: Jesse’s Story, the biography of quadriplegic surfer Jesse Billauer, also a Life Rolls On Foundation fundraiser.
9 PM: Brazilian Night featuring the film FABIO FABULOSO
Friday, July 29th
7 PM: BLACKWATER THE STORY OF TEAHUPOO, by Australian filmmaker Tim Bonython including phenomenal footage of the 2 days of surfing from this years’ Billabong Pro in the news all around the world with the Jet Ski falling over Ramaina, dubbed by Peter Wilson, Tom Servais and Brian Beillman as the best 2 days of surfing photography in history.
Closing Night Tribute to life-long waterman Herbie Fletcher,
9 PM: Featuring well known surfers/filmmakers and industry personalities such as Greg MacGillivray, Dana Brown, Pete (PT) Townend. We will play WAVE WARRIORS III, a groundbreaking surf film by Herbie Fletcher. A reception will immediately follow at Dukes restaurant.
