The Canadian composer Howard Shore has won two Oscars for The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King at the 76st Annual Academy Awards ceremony last night. On April 16th Howard Shore will conduct his Lord of the Rings symphony in six movements in the Antwerp sportpaleis.

Howard Shore was awarded two times at the 76th Oscar ceremony: best original song Into the West, performed by Annie Lennox and best original score. Earlier this year, Shore won two Golden Globes for the same categories. The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King was the overall winner with 11 Oscars out of 11 nominations.

Academy Award winner Shore will shortly be visiting Belgium. On April 16th he presents The Lord of the Rings symphony in six movements for orchestra and chorus in the Antwerp sportpaleis, a unique European premiere. Shore created a moving concert suite using music fragments from the three films. The Flemish Radio Orchestra and chorus will perform live. More than 200 performers will bring the adventures of Sam, Gandalf, Saruman and many others come to live. Various pictures of film settings by Alan Lee and John Howe will be shown.

The concert is organised by the Flanders International Film Festival together with the Flemish Radio Orchestra.
