Helsinki is hit by documentary fever: DocPoint’s Finnish Selection PublishedThe 6th edition of DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival takes place in 24-28th of January 2007. Accreditation for the festival has started on the festival’s website Films selected for DocPoint’s New Finnish Documentaries are: Breaking Free in Hakunila by Jean Bitar, Magic Night by Jouni Hiltunen, A Winter’s Journey by Visa Koiso-Kanttila, The Smoking Room by Jukka Kärkkäinen, Holy Father by Anne Laurila, The Killing Sea by Ari Lehikoinen, The Sami by Markku Lehmuskallio and Anastasia Lapsui, No Man Is An Island by Sonja Lindén, Tobacco Girls by Tarja Mattila, The Catch by Taru Mäkelä, Eden Pastora – Commandant ”Zero” by Alvaro Pardo and The Skiers by John Webster. Nine films were selected from Finnish Film Schools to be screened in two slots. Two films, Revolution by Jouko Aaltonen and Asylum by Jenni Linko, were selected for special screenings. Focus on Denmark and Mexico, Jørgen Leth and Asger Leth at Masterclass Every year, DocPoint explores new areas in the festival programme in co-operation with documentary film festivals around the world. In 2007 DocPoint focuses on Denmark and Mexico. The selections have been made in co-operation with CPH:DOX (Copenhagen) and DOCSDF (Mexico City). Film makers from both countries will arrive to the festival. DocPoint’s guest of honour is the legendary Danish director Jørgen Leth. Leth and his son Asger Leth, director of the acclaimed debut documentary Ghosts of Cité Soleil, will collaborate and give a DocPoint Masterclass together. The event will be a unique and unprecedented public dialogue by two generations of film makers. DOKKINO Starts a New Journey from Helsinki The year 2006 has been a success for DOKKINO, DocPoint’s Documentary Film Festival for Children and Youth, with over 4000 admissions nationwide. The next edition of the travelling festival will start the journey from Helsinki during DocPoint festival in January. DOKKINOs screenings for pupils run in 22-28th of Jan in Helsinki cinemas. The new DOKKINO selection includes films from Finland, Belgium, Serbia and Montenegro and Netherlands. See complete info on the selection online. DOCview Selection Closing for 2007 DOCview programmers are preparing a cutting edge selection of the latest documentaries from DOCview target areas. The last choices for DOCview programme and videotheque are currently being made and soon the selection will close for next year’s edition. You can now find a complete listing of films included in previous editions of DOCview on our website. More info of the new selection will be added in December. DOCview is DocPoint’s venue for a professional audience consisting of a videotheque and a special selection of screenings. It provides an insight into the latest documentary production of Finland and its surrounding countries. The programmers hand pick and invite a selection of the most interesting documentaries from Sweden, Norway, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.
