“Green Camp” at Filmfest Hamburg

How do I finance my film project via Internet? Get the answer to this question this year at the so called “Green Camp” at Filmfest Hamburg. This digital one-day conference on October 8, 2010 is targeting professionals from the film industry. The main objective is to find out how filmmakers can marketing their projects via social media tools as facebook, twitter or kickstarter. The Green Camp is supported by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-
Holstein.
This year's focus is on the financing of environmental films and documentaries.
For that, we set up our special section „Drei Farben Grün“ (“Three Colours Green”) at the Filmfest Hamburg. It shows ten different documentaries concerning environment. The goal for this is that Hamburg will be next year's “European Environment Capital 2011”. Those films were conventionally financed in difficult and tenacious ways.
In consequence, the directors, who are showing their films in the section “Drei Farben Grün” (“Three Colours Green”), are very interested in finding new digital possibilities for financing and promoting their future projects. That's the reason why Carter Gunn and Ross
McDonnell ("Colony"), Kimon Tsakiris ("SugarTown: The ay After") and Monteith McCollum ("A Different Path") have appealed amongst others to the Green Camp.
Also participating are the directors Jarmo Puskala and Pekka Ollula from Finland. They were one of the first who started to collect money via internet for their film „Star Wreck“. At the same time, they were developing adequate software tools, permitting other filmmakers to have the necessary conditions for the internet promotion.
Film maker Hanna Skøld and producer Helene Grandquist from Sweden will tell about similar experiences. They released their film „Nasty Old People“ at first free of charge on the platform „Pirate Bay“. The surprising result of volunteer donations and DVD-orders were a major contribution to pay outstanding production debts.
About 50 participants can apply for the Green Camp workshop at Filmfest Hamburg. There is no predetermined list of speakers. Everyone communicates with everyone else analogue or online with his own laptop. The main objective is to be networked with each other to awake world wide interest for niche topics. Communication language is English.
The Green Camp takes place on October 8, 2010 from 11 to 19 h. Location: University of Hamburg, Von Melle Park 9, Room 206. Please contact Simon Chappuzeau under www.digitalfilmcamp.de for registration.
The 18th Filmfest Hamburg takes place from 30th September to 9th October 2010 in the cinemas: Abaton Kino, Cinemaxx Dammtor, Metropolis Kino, 3001 Kino and for the first time in the B-Movie cinema.
