Golden Calves, the award for Dutch Cinema


During the Talkshow of the 26th Netherlands Film Festival, the nominations were announced for the 2006 Golden Calves, the prestigious award for Dutch Cinema. The Jury of the Golden Calves competition selected the nominees after watching 76 film productions in competition. The jury members are Esther Bannenberg, Jan van den Berg, Jacqueline de Goeij, Rolf Koot (vice-chairman), Esmé Lammers (chairwoman), Erik Langhout and Wouter Suyderhoud.

Also in this evening's Talkshow, the nominations were announced for the Dutch Film Critics Award. This press award is granted by the Circle of Dutch Film Critics KNF. This year's jury is made up of Pieter van Lierop (GPD), Saskia Legein (TVFilm, Radio M), Mike Peek (NL20), Bregtje Schudel (Vrij Nederland) and Willem Schouten (Sp!ts).

The Golden Calves and the Dutch Film Critics Award will be presented during the Netherlands Film Gala on Friday 6 October from 20:00 to 21:30 in the Stadsschouwburg in Utrecht. The Gala can be seen live on the internet via www.filmfestival.nl, and VPRO TV reports on it from 23:15 uur on Ned 2.

The Jury awards Golden Calves in seventeen categories: Best Sound Design, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Music, Best Photography, Best Short Film, Best Short Documentary, Best Full-Length Documentary, Best TV Drama, Best Male Supporting Role, Best Female Supporting Role, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Script, Best Director, Best Feature Film and the Special Jury Award. No nominations are made for the Special Jury Award.

During the Gala, the Golden Calf for the Tiscali Audience Award will also be presented to the feature film that got the highest score from festival audiences.

The children's and youth awards were also presented today. ZOO RANGERS IN INDIA was awarded the Moviesquad Junior Award, and during the Talkshow the children's jury granted the Moviesquad Award to A THOUSAND KISSES.
