On Saturday night the awards for the best short films in Europe were handed out at the busy Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen. As much as 324 short films were screened during Go Short, of which 14 had there premiere. A special winner is Wednesdays by Aaron Rookus. During the last edition of Go Short Rookus presented his idea during the very first CineCrowd audiencemarket. Wednesdays premiered this year, and won the Dutch Competition Award. It also became clear that Swedish films are on the rise, with three awards and one special mention.

Go Short Awards
There were eighty films selected for the European Competition. The jury, consisting of filmmaker Danyael Sugawara, animator Pierre Emmanuel Lyet, and media artist Max Hattler, chose The Runaway by Spanish filmmaker Victor Carrey as best fiction film. Crossover, by rising maker Fabian Grodde, was the surprising winner of the animationcompetition. For the first time this year we had a Youth jury consisting of youths between 13 and 15. From a special program they picked The Piano Tuner by Olivier Treiner.

Sweden
Of the nine awards that were handed out there were three going to Sweden. The delicate and touching documentary Claes by the Swedish filmmaker Martine Carlstedt won the documentarycompetition. The award for best art film also went to Sweden. Erik Bäfving convinced the jury with his fragile short film Inbetweener and wins the Award for the best art film. The Dioraphte Encouragement Award and the 5.000 euro price money went to Michael Krotkiwski for his 9 Scenes of Violence. Besides that there was also a special mention for Hugo Lilja and his original and fresh short film The Unliving.

Winner: Cleas - Martina Carlstedt (Sweden)
A delicately crafted and touching documentary about the life of Claes: a King and self made prisoner of his 40m2 world.
Special mention: Framing the Other - Ilja Kok and Willem Timmers (The Netherlands)

NTR / Go Short Award for Best European Short Art Film to the value of €1.000
Winner: Inbetweener - Erik Bäfving (Sweden)
A touching and fragile tale about loneliness, pain and coming to terms with a painful past. Special mention: Rigid Regime - Erkka Nissinen (China - Finland)

Dutch Competition Award to the value of €1.000

A film that approaches a delicate subject in exactly the right way.

Jameson / Go Short Audience Award to the value of €1.000
Winner: The Return - Blerta Zeqiri (Kosovo)
