Focus East Asia at Regent Park Fest

Regent Park Film Festival Nov 9 – 13th 2005; Focus East Asia

This free festival runs from November 9 -13, and this year spotlights East Asia with films from China, Vietnam, Philippines and Asian Canadian filmmakers. The RPFF presents works in both fiction and documentary, long and short, from here and abroad.

The festival will be presenting a whole range of works short and long, fiction and documentary, from here and abroad. This year has a spotlight on East Asia with films from China, Vietnam, Philippines and Asian Canadian filmmakers. As always there will be films about and from Latin America, South Asia, USA and Canada.

Begun in 2003, Regent Park Film Festival is organized by a group of cinephiles who believe in the power of cinema to build communities, promote multicultural relationships and empower individuals. Dedicated to bringing films relevant to the communities living in Regent Park with an emphasis on films from our regions of origin (South Asia, Africa, Asia and Latin America), the festival also screens films from North America and else where about immigrant issues to help us envision our present and future in Canada.

The goal of the festival is to celebrate the unity as well as the diversity of Regent Park and to create a forum of discussion and reflection on various issues such as class, race, gender, multiculturalism, identity, sexuality and democratic participation. The festival is free of charge.

So, prepare for an explosion of ideas, a feast of perspectives, inspiring stories and some plain good entertainment!
