Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Kim Longinotto has been named the 2009 recipient of the True/False Film Festival's prestigious True Vision Award. Two of Longinotto's films, ROUGH AUNTIES, winner of the World Cinema Documentary Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and GAEA GIRLS, will screen at True/False, where the filmmaker will be on hand this weekend to accept the award. The sole award of the festival is given annually to a filmmaker whose work shows a dedication to the creative advancement of the art of nonfiction filmmaking. Loginotto is the first woman in festival history to receive the honor, and joins a distinguished list of recipients that include Alex Gibney, Brett Morgen, Kirby Dick, Stephen Marshall, and Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky.

Longinotto is one of the preeminent documentary filmmakers working today, with more than 14 films in her oeuvre, including SISTERS IN LAW (2005), winner of a 2008 Peabody Award and two Cannes awards, including the Cannes Prix art et Essai Award; the Amnesty International DOEN Award winner THE DAY I WILL NEVER FORGET (2003); and International Documentary Festival Amsterdam Special Jury Prize winner HOLD ME TIGHT, LET ME GO (2007). Known for her unique narrative storytelling and masterful exploration of controversial topics, Longinotto consistently tackles big issues in intimate human terms. In addition to her recent Sundance World Cinema Documentary Jury Prize win for ROUGH AUNTIES, her accomplished career as a filmmaker will be recognized by The Museum of Modern Art in New York in a film retrospective running throughout the month of May. ROUGH AUNTIES, a Women Make Movies new release, will be broadcast on HBO later this year.
