FIFAM Montreal adventure and discovery Festival

It is non stop film festival in Montreal!
A solo crossing of the Arctic Circle, an expedition in search of Inca mummies, meetings with the Sherpa people, crossing Alaska on bicycle, diving at the heart of Patagonia’s glaciers, climbing icebergs in Greenland, paragliding down the Khumbu, exploring chasms in the Pyrenees, free falling in the Dolomites… FIFAM--the only Canadian Festival dedicated to human and sports adventure--takes place from Thursday October 27 to Sunday October 30 2005
38 films in official competition, 14 countries represented, 29 breathtaking themes and 3 conference evenings.

35 “ADVENTURE” PREMIÈRES
The 4th Edition of FIFAM will be held during 4 intense days in Marie-Gérin-Lajoie hall on UQAM’s campus. The event presents the best international productions, both short and feature-length, revolving on human and sports adventure.

The 2005 FIFAM programming features 35 premières, of which 18 North-American premières. These include AMAZONIA VERTICAL (by Pavol Barabas) recounting an expedition by three climbers at the heart of unspoiled Amazonia in the remote region of Auyan Tepui, LE VOYAGE INTÉRIEUR DE MIKE HORN (Mike Horn’s Inner Journey, by Raphael Blanc) on this adventurer of the extremes’ journey around the Arctic Circle–-in 27 months--, À TRAVERS LA PIERRE (Through the Rock, by Luc-Henri Fage), an incursion in the Pyrenees’ deepest chasm, and PROFONDEUR ABSOLUE (Absolute Depth, by Loïc Leferme) for experiencing a record dive without any breathing apparatus to a depth of 171 m!

A Quebec tour, consisting of conference evenings, will follow in Quebec City on November 7, in Albert-Rousseau hall, in Sherbrooke on November 8, in Maurice-O’Bready hall, and in Gatineau on November 10, in the theatre of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

THREE CONFERENCE EVENINGS
The 2005 FIFAM will be presenting three great evenings with seasoned speakers followed by screenings of the official selection. These conference evenings, presented by SAIL boutique, will introduce you to people for whom adventure, the outdoors and discovery represent a way of life (see complete press release).

Thursday October 27, 2005. GUY ET CLAIRE LAVOIE: LE PROJET BALTHAZAR (THE BALTHAZAR PROJECT).
Building one’s boat and leaving on a veritable 5-year sailing adventure around the world with the family. From the Saint Lawrence River to the Pacific Ocean, life on board a 35-footer has many surprises in store!

Friday October 28, 2005. MARC BATARD: UNE VIE EN ALTITUDE (A LIFE AT HIGH ALTITUDE). A world-renowned French mountaineer, nicknamed “The Summit Sprinter”. A life as a guide and mountaineer spent achieving exceptional routes, climbing summits on every continent and pushing back the limits of extreme.

Saturday October 29, 2005. MAXIME JEAN: PASSION HIMALAYA. Member of the first team of Quebeckers to reach the summit of Everest, in May 2004. In 2005, he attacked Cho Oyu. He has us sharing his passion for the great peaks and getting acquainted with the secrets of large expeditions. What has he in store for us in 2006?

QUEBEC-STYLE ADVENTURES ZONE
In the context of the 2005 FIFAM, Quebec’s adventure cinematography will be accessible FREELY and AT NO CHARGE to all film enthusiasts who enjoy wide open spaces and discovery. A series of ten Quebec productions, both short and feature-length, will be continuously presented, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., from Friday October 28 to Sunday October 30, 2005, in the foyer of the Studio-Théâtre Alfred-Laliberté, on UQAM’s campus
