Festival of German Films in Buenos Aires

The 8th Festival of German Films in Buenos Aires (11 – 17 September 2008)

New films by Germany’s leading filmmakers as well as promising newcomers will be shown at the 8th Festival de Cine Alemán.

The festival will be kicked off in the Cine Village Recoleta on 11 September with a screening of THE WAVE (DIE WELLE) in the presence of director Dennis Gansel and lead actress Jennifer Ulrich. THE WAVE is one of five films submitted for the selection process for the German entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award.

Another guest of the festival will be Martin Gypkens who is to present his episodic film NOTHING BUT GHOSTS (NICHTS ALS GESPENSTER).

The main program will also show HANAMI – CHERRY BLOSSOMS (HANAMI – KIRSCHBLUETEN) by Doris Doerrie, THE EDGE OF HEAVEN (AUF DER ANDEREN SEITE) by Fatih Akin, TRADE (TRADE-WILLKOMMEN IN AMERIKA) by Marco Kreuzpaintner, SPECIAL ESCORT (STELLUNGSWECHSEL) by Maggie Peren, CHIKO, the first feature film by Oezguer Yildirim, BEAUTIFUL BITCH by Martin Theo Krieger, AND ALONG COME TOURISTS (AM ENDE KOMMEN TOURISTEN) by Robert Thalheim, the documentary TO THE LIMIT (AM LIMIT) by Pepe Danquart and the TV film ROSE by Alain Gsponer.

RED ZORA (DIE ROTE ZORA) by Peter Kahane will be shown in a children’s screening.

A representative of the short films program NEXT GENERATION 2008, Lothar Herzog, will also travel to Buenos Aires to present his film BONZENKARREN.

A particular highlight will be the screening of the silent film HAMLET by Sven Gade and Heinz Schall, which will be shown in cooperation with the German Film Institute. The quartet SERONOSER, Eliana Liuni, Demian Luaces, Juan Manuel Costa and Marcelo Katz, will provide musical accompaniment for the film screening.
