FEATURE NARRATIVE
Black White and the Greys

Jordie and Caleb Grey have a seemingly perfect life. They’ve been married for seven years and have an adorable, precocious 5 year-old daughter named Millie. Of course they have their ups and downs but for the most part they’re happy. That all changes when a nationwide pandemic hits, and the couple are forced to quarantine together. Caleb loses his job and becomes a stay-at- home dad, while Jordie is tasked with being the sole breadwinner and working from home. As various events of 2020 unfold - the death of Kobe Bryant, Covid, BLM movement, a wave of Cancel Culture in Caleb’s field, etc... the couple gradually discovers that their beliefs simply don’t align on many important issues. BLACK WHITE AND THE GREYS is an unflinching look at marriage, race, and many other tough topics of 2020. Timely, relevant, romantic, funny, and at times... heartbreaking. It’s a powerful, original story that needs to be told...

WISHING FOR WINGS

A shy, middle-class American is scarred by a home invasion. Working in a posh Trinidadian school she naively allows herself to be inveigled into teaching teenage boys in prison. They come from a world of poverty and crime, a universe away from their new teacher and her literature syllabus. Now she and her students must communicate with, and learn from, each other if the boys are to prepare for examinations. But they are hardened by life, resentful and suspicious. They must break those habits and practice introspection while surviving the violence of prison. To read novels and poems and write essays they must understand themselves. Meanwhile, their teacher must set aside her fears and empathize with her students if she is to explore new pedagogic techniques, create new study materials, which the boys can relate to. As their relationship deepens, the teacher transcends her traumas. Her idea of education is transformed and she finds a new purpose in life. For the students, more important than any exams they must pass is the respect they develop for themselves and for others. Only by changing how they think can they face life’s challenges outside of prison.

ZERIA

The last man on earth recounts his life story to his grandson, who could be the first person to return from humanity’s exile in outer space. This art film in the guise of an oddball sci-fi exercise, with its scale-model sets populated by “human puppets,” takes the form of an introspective philosophical journey about our species. Moving, heart-rending and nerve-wracking, Zeria is an insanely ambitious film that will leave no one unscathed. A future-time exploration of private lives, a cross between Lynch’s Eraserhead and Malick’s Tree of Life where monsters mingle with the divine.
