Festival du Nouveau Cinema presents Moebius special

The 14th International Multimedia Prix Möbius: A special presentation of the Festival du Nouveau Cinema

On the occasion of its 35th anniversary, the Festival du Nouveau Cinema is proud to join UNESCO-Bell Chair of UQAM to present the 14th edition of the International Multimedia Prix Möbius. In collaboration with the Open Source section: creational encounters, they will be hosting this special event at the Musée Juste Pour Rire on the 13th, 14th and 15th of October 2006.

Founded in 1992 under the aegis of UNESCO and on the initiative of the European Commission, the CNRS (national centre for scientific research) and the CNET (French telecommunication research centre), the Prix Möbius event is committed to rewarding multimedia achievements with a special emphasis on those that are considered innovative and/or avant-garde. National selection comities (Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Spain, Finland, Greece, Romania, French and Italian-speaking countries, Indian Ocean-located countries along with those from Scandinavia) will present a selection of their best in nomination for the international Prix Möbius.

Since its creation, it has proved itself to be a major opportunity in the multimedia field also enabling to keep up with new communication and editorial technologies on an international scale. Amongst its allies, the famous Prix Möbius not only benefits from the support of a large international university network, but also from the best research groups along with professionals directly involved in the analysis of communication networks and cultural business. This 14th edition will also begin the three-year countdown that will lead its future hosting from Paris (in 2007) to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics.

It will be the very first time that the Prix Möbius is held in Northern America and the Festival du Nouveau Cinema will be welcoming this special event, which will take place in October 2006: “We are thrilled to give the prestigious Prix Möbius the showcase that is deserves. We believe that it rightly goes in line with our section Open Source: creational encounters, the purpose of which is to give an actual insight into new forms of creations, especially in the interactive field”, declares Bruno Jobin as General Director of the Festival du Nouveau Cinema.

Jean-Paul Lafrance, Communications and International Development Chairman of UNESCO-Bell also President of the Quebec/Canada Prix Möbius since its creation is thrilled with the association to FNC: “The extraordinary crossing between the movie business and digital technologies, between both production and distribution, is very likely to provide with a large colourful and rich panorama to the public but also to all national representatives who will be part of it”.

Thanks to the cooperation between both the FNC and the Prix Möbius, Montrealers will be guaranteed to appreciate an even wider horizon that will include all sorts of multimedia arts both from here and the rest of the world.” Exchange, synergy and proactivity will be the ultimate keywords guiding professional and artistic interests through the movie and multimedia world.
