A meeting was held Tuesday in Montréal between representatives of the Atlantic Film Festival Association (AFF), the Festival international de films de Montréal (FIFM) and Telefilm Canada, to address issues ensuing the date overlap situation.

All parties have agreed to work closely together to resolve logistical considerations, such as print movement, guest and press relations between the AFF and the FIFM.

“I appreciated the candour of the meeting and understand the realities of the situation,” said Gregor Ash, Executive Director of the Atlantic Film Festival Association. “Although a change of dates was not agreed upon, we accept the assurances that were made not to run concurrently with us in the future and that all parties involved will work to minimize the impact.”

“This situation has highlighted some major concerns for Canadian festivals. I believe that Telefilm will help us to address these in the future, by facilitating more consultation and increased communication within our industry.”

Alain Simard, President of the Festival international de films de Montréal, added: “The Festival international de films de Montréal regrets the impact on the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax. This unfortunate scheduling circumstance is a one-time exception and we have assured the Atlantic Film Festival that they have our full collaboration in minimizing any ramifications.”

I am fully confident that the 25th anniversary edition will proceed successfully as planned and that this event will continue to grow as an international player.”
