Experts and intelectuals enliven at HD Expo

Ted Schilowitz, cinematographer Bengt Jonsson, PlasterCITY’s Michael Cioni and Director Joseph Toman led a packed audience through a dynamic, real-world RED case study at HD EXPO last week at the Beverly Hilton. The panel illustrated their discussion with a reel of recent commercials, music videos and feature clips; and took a rapt audience through a robust RED workflow that has developed as the camera is deployed in a variety of productions. RED’s Schilowitz noted that, “The pipeline has taken shape and is working well on a wide variety of projects. The partnerships with innovative collaborators like PlasterCITY along with the creativity of cinematographers, editors and directors has shown these new tools to be a phenomenal asset in the creative process.”
HD EXPO also presented a “Conversation With Francoise Bourdonnec,” the Portland-based Director of Domestic Designs and Technologies Research for Intel’s Digital Home Group. Bourdonnec, whose ethnographic research informs product development, commented, “People around the world are creating content, whether it be for small, personal projects, or a larger audience on YouTube.com. How they create and where they watch will increasingly impact viewers, creators and business alike.”
During the March 6th event, Kristin Petrovich, CEO of HD EXPO, announced the launch of HD EXPO’s membership organization. The organization will offer members a wide variety of benefits including discounts on Workshops and education, job postings and boards, members-only events and screenings, admission to Q, viral marketing tools, free access to HD EXPO’s streaming video portal VHDE, and other compelling benefits. “From the beginning, the goal for HD EXPO has been to build a viable community of experts and users. Our membership organization will take that goal to the next. We are pulling all of the resources of HD EXPO together to present a fantastic opportunity that will enable our community to learn and connect in new ways. This is one of the most exciting undertakings that I have been involved with and we are going to deliver an amazing value to our membership.” Members will name the new organization in a contest currently underway. For information about joining, visit http://hdexpo.net/membership/index.html.
HD EXPO heads next to Chicago’s Navy Pier on June 5th where the Midwest event, “Where Creativity and Technology Collide” unfolds. Speakers and education for the June event will be announced shortly. October 29th & 30th, 2008 are the dates set for the “Defining the Community” HD EXPO at the Burbank Marriott. For further info about HD EXPO, visit hdexpo.net.
