European films at Rio Film Festival

9 European films get Film Sales Support for promotional activities at Brazil’s most important film festival

6 European sales agents and production companies are being awarded Film Sales Support (FSS) for the promotion of 9 European films in total at Latin America’s Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival (21 September 5 October 2006). Amongst the supported films are Aleksandar Maniæ’s documentary, The Shutka Book of Records (Czech Republic), Nils Tavernier’s Aurore (France), Pedro Costas’s Colossal Youth (Portugal/France/Switzerland), Mohamed Al-Daradji’s The Dream (UK/Netherlands/Iraq) and Gerardo Herrero’s Rough Winds (Spain). (For complete list of supported films see below)

FSS was launched in 2004 by European Film Promotion (EFP). It has the backing of the Media Programme of the European Union with the mandate to boost the presence of European films outside of Europe. FSS complements EFP’s other promotional activities for European films around the world.

For the third time round, FSS is available for films screening in Rio. The grant helps with the production of promotional material and activities undertaken by the sales agents, but also generates networking with local buyers by providing for the attendance of the films’ representatives.

The Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival is one of the main festivals on the FSS festival calendar for 2006, alongside the festivals of Sundance (USA), Mar del Plata in Argentina, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, Toronto (Canada) and Pusan (South Korea).
