Holland Film Meeting
Holland Film Meeting (HFM) ended its five-day run on Monday and the event head Ellis Driessen said it had been “very productive with real results.” Of the projects in the Netherlands Production Platform (NPP), several secured co-producers and sales agents.

Hans de Weers’ Eyeworks Egmond did good business at the NPP. For his new Marleen Gorris project My Father’s Notebook he hopes to sign Germany’s Joachim Von Vietinghoff of Von Vietinghoff Filmproduktion as a co-producer before the end of this year. And Dutch project Cold from director Bea De Visser struck a deal with Berlin-based MDC International to handle international sales.

Several other co-production arrangements are pending, and Driessen said that one of the hottest projects was Irish horror film The Wake Wood to be directed by David Keating (The Last Of The High Kings) and written and co-produced by Brendan McCarthy.

Among the other international producers attending the HFM were Cedomir Kolar of ASAP Films in Paris, Julie Baines of DAN Films in London and Pierre Spengler of Clubdeal Ltd in London.

Holland Film Meeting is backed by the Dutch Film Fund, the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, the Ministry Of Education, Culture & Science and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Among the films in this year’s festival which have been through the NPP process are 2007 Nederlands Film Festival titles Duska directed by Jos Stelling, Nadine directed by Erik de Bruyn, Nanouk Leopold’s Wolfsbergen, Tamar van den Dop’s Blind and Pieter Kuijpers’ Dennis P.

On opening night of the 27th Netherlands Film Festival Frans Afman, chairman of the board of the Netherlands Film Festival, was knighted to Companion of the Order of Orange-Nassau. The festival ends October 6 with the Netherlands Film Gala where the Golden Calves and the Dutch Film Critics Award will be presented.
