A Z OF DIGITAL FILMMAKING
High Definition is the future of production, post-production and exhibition. Not only does it make your production look gorgeous, Sony and Adobe have now developed technology that will let you edit on location, produce digital dailies, edit and develop effects simultaneously, and author your own DVDs for showreels or distribution.
Supported by Adobe and Sony, the event will allow for demonstrations of the most powerful new digital software and equipment, including the Adobe Video Collection and Sony HD.
Adobe explains how the new Adobe Video Collection can be used in the production of feature films. They˜ll show how all the products (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition and Encore) can be utilised across the entire filmmaking process: from producing storyboards in pre-production, through editing and special effects, up to final distribution on DVD or new Windows Media formats.
Sony will be leading people through the whole production process on their HD technology, from viewing dailies, using HD cameras properly, offline and online editing, and finally exhibiting on HD technology.
This is your chance to play with Sony and Adobe˜s new state-of-the-art technology and find out how to use it in your production workflow.
MAGIC DREAMS 2004 SHORTS
Young & Rubicam and Sony have teamed up for the third year running in a collaborative venture designed to expose filmmakers to the creative possibilities of High Definition technology. The first project, completed in 2002, contained eight 'Dreams' shorts produced with the 24P HD CineAlta camera. Following this success, Y&R and Sony instigated a 2003 sequel with the theme of 'Joy'. Now in 2004, the 'Dreams' project has taken on a new perspective, featuring ten leading commercials directors under the subject of 'Magic'. Directors participating in the 'Magic' are David Cornell, Stacy Wall, Tim Godsall, Matthias Hoene, Erich Joiner, Hype Williams, Erick Ifergan, Elma Garcia, Dante Ariola and Jonathan Darby.
The Sony HDCAM High Definition format has become the most popular production system for all High Definition production, be it commercials, movies or top-end television. HDCAM based camera hire companies and post production houses are now widespread, with nearly 200 top facilities across Europe, including over 30 in the UK, and many more in the US, Australia, Japan and elsewhere.
The Magic shorts are the living proof of the creative potentials of High Definition for moviemaking accommodating different aesthetics and looks and delivering outstanding pictorial results on a big cinema screen.
The EIFF 2004 Industry Events will include debates, pitching forums and seminars designed to stimulate, inform and enlighten, from Friday 20 Saturday 28 August. Discussions about cinema culture and the art of filmmaking will be complemented by fact-filled sessions on the craft and technique of development and production, sales and distribution.
