Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Cyprus Festival program completed for second year

Cyprus Island is starring again for the 2nd international and independent annual film festival CIFF, which will take place, from 12 until 19 April 2007. Big success in a row!

After the successeful last year organisation, 600 films were submitted from 50 countries by filmmakers from Greece, Cyprus and all over the world to the programming office in order to participate in CIFF 2007 official program.

The above-mentioned festival stands in the line of Cannes Festival, but also with reference to Sundance Festival, focusing on the work of emerging, young independent filmmakers. The Festival aims to bring together new talented filmmakers from all over the world and promote their talent and films among the audience, the producers, distributors, international sponsors and representatives of important film festivals. At the same time, CIFF aims to became a creative, constructive meeting place for the Cypriot and Greek film industry.

Several film premieres are going to be screened in the following categories: featured and short films, films for children, animation, sports genre, video art, films by Greek/Cypriot filmmakers who live abroad, comedies, films with humanitarian content and a new category which appears in this event is, dance films and video dance.
They could not be missed the most successful productions of the season. The Lars von Trier’s new movie “The Boss Of It All”, the last feature film of Luc Besson “Angel A” and the Guillermo del Toro's masterpiece “Pan’s Labyrinth” will make local premiere at the CIFF for the Cypriot public. Franco Nero is presented for the first time as a director in his feature film ‘Forever Blues’. “10 Items For Less”, the latest film of Brad Silberling with Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega is a panhellenic/pancyprian premiere at CIFF2007!
KODAK and SEAHORSE FILMS offer this year, two important Cinematography Awards in the categories both of feature and short film.
Once more, CIFF will have an educational character and will dedicate a special section to the recent work of DreamWorks Animation by renowned animators directors such as Cameron Hood and Kyle Jefferson. This rewarding session is ideal for anyone interested in CG Animation, or anyone who wants to learn about the passion needed to create short films within a studio setting. CIFF also offers a series of special parrells events designed to stimulate enthusiasm and create discussion: retrospectives, seminars and workshops on various aspects of cinema, as well as exhibitions, collaborations with dance, music concerts and parties.
Personalities from the international film world who can share their knowledge and experience with younger filmmakers and audience have already been invited by the organizers. Among many others, famous names like: Morgan Freeman, Franco Nero, Seymour Cassel, Ben Gazzara, Phaedon Papamichael and Paz Vega are included. Many Greek personalities of the cinema industry are also invited.

Such a big event needs a lot of effort. For that reason, students in the faculties of visual media, art, journalism & communication, film studies or even movie-loving young people are more that welcomed to require any information on volunteer opportunities in the various festival sections. The only thing we can guarantee is the unforgettable cine-experience that they will gain for sure!
