The Efebo d'Oro Nuovi Linguaggi - Città di Palermo. The award will be presented during the 43rd edition of the Efebo d'Oro, scheduled in Palermo from 14 to 20 November 2021.

At the same time the Efebo d'Oro - International Film and Fiction Award, film and writing festival, in 7 days of programming will pay homage to Costa-Gavras, a naturalized French Greek director, an internationally renowned filmmaker whose filmography is synonymous with civil commitment and intellectual honesty, which will receive the Efebo d'Oro Award for Lifetime Achievement - Banca Popolare Sant'Angelo.

The competition, on the other hand, will present 7 films based on literary works - competing for the Efebo d'Oro - and 7 first or second works in competition for the Efebo Prospettive, together with a rich calendar of events and insights. The winning films of the two competitions will be decreed by the juries composed of: for Efebo d'Oro Egle Palazzolo (president of the Research Center for Narrative and Cinema), Roberto Escobar (film critic), Frédéric Farrucci (director), Olivia Magnani (actress) and Leena Pasanen (director of Biografilm Festival); Doriana Leondeff (screenwriter), Maryam Goormaghtigh (director) and Francesco Calogero (director) for the Ephebe Perspectives.

Constanze Ruhm

Constanze Ruhm lives between Vienna and Berlin and works as a filmmaker, artist, author and curator. In general, her works can be defined as constellations rather than linear narratives, worlds in which perspectives shift according to the viewer's point of view and where codes - from performance to fiction - constantly mix. "I need this opening of aesthetic forms but which are, at the same time, always deeply linked to political positions, feminist issues and perspectives, critique of patriarchy and hegemonic forms of narrative."

Her films and her installations investigate the relationship between cinema, new media and archives focusing on the history of films and on female film characters suspended between fiction and reality, between documentation and ghost. Her main interest is in representation and performativity and their relationship with feminist historiography. She thus tackles the issues of female identity, appealing to the feminist theory which tends to highlight the gender dimension and the relationship of domination that is exercised within film productions using the instrument of repetition, one of the fundamental concepts of her work. Although they vary formally and conceptually or in terms of aesthetics, all of her films are deeply connected to each other. "The development process is very idiosyncratic, I would say ... once there is a clear subject, it functions like a gravitational center, like a magnet, a force that attracts other sub-topics, themes, images, ideas, texts and etc. I have been collecting materials for a long time; it's a process like writing a text, as my writing always plays a very important role in my films. In this sense it is a truly non-fiction process; much of the realization, of the structuring takes place subsequently, in the editing room. Each new project is a new path and I don't know where it will take me - which is also nice in a way, because sometimes I feel that the film itself "wants" something, has a desire and I am just someone to discover that desire, rather as being a means through which those flows of narratives and images pass ».

Since 1996, she has been teaching Film and Video in international contexts and since 2006 she has been a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His works have participated in international exhibitions and performances: among the latest we remember Putting Rehearsals to the Test, in collaboration with Sabeth Buchmann and Ilse Lafer (VOX Center de Immagage contemporain, Leonard and Bina Ellen Gallery, SBC Gallery, Montréal 2016 ).
