Cologne KunstFilmBiennale second competition this fall

Second International Competition of the Cologne KunstFilmBiennale

The programmatic focus of the Cologne KunstFilmBiennale (19 - 24 October 2005) will be the intersection of visual arts and film. The following are eligible for entry in the competition: films by visual artists; documentaries about visual artists; feature films with visual arts as the subject. The works must be produced after 2003 and they must be fit to be screened as a film (16 mm, 35 mm) or video (Beta SP, DVD). The main prize is sponsored by the Film Foundation North Rhine-Westphalia. It is worth 15,000 euros.

The latest films of artists such as Matthew Barney, Tunga, Tracey Emin, Bruce Conner and Sarah Morris will be part of the International Competition at the KunstFilmBiennale, which takes place in Cologne this year between 19th and 24th October. Artists' films, documentaries and feature films from all over the world will vie for the German Film Critics' Prize and the 15,000-euro prize sponsored by the Film Foundation North Rhine-Westphalia. In a second competition for promising young film-makers, the Bild-Kunst Sponsorship Award worth 25,000 euro will be presented to the best innovative film.

Other program highlights at the Museum Ludwig cinema, the Kölnischer Kunstverein and two arthouse movie theatres include artists' films from South America, historical films from the Fluxus movement, a retrospective of German animated film-maker Jochen Kuhn and a selection of Arab and Iranian artists' films curated by Documenta X director Catherine David, to be screened at the Kunst-Station Sankt. Peter. This year's carte blanche will be given to artist Jürgen Klauke.
