Choker Bali will open LA indian Fest

The 2004 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles
Wednesday April 14-April 18 Sunday

CHOKHER BALI (premieres in Toronto)will open the festiival on April 14.
Next day IFFLA will feature a Gala Film Tribute to Celebrate Career of Indian Actress Kirron Kher on April 15

Rituparno Ghosh's CHOKHER BALI (A Passion Play) as the opening night film of the 2004 festival.
The film, based on Rabidranath Tagore's novel CHOKHER BALI, is a period drama featuring superstar actress Aishwarya Rai as a young widow in British-occupied Bengal during the early 1900s. CHOKHER BALI has received excellent reviews, with Aishwarya's performance rated one of her best ever. Don't miss this subtle psychological study of relationships and Ghosh's masterful technique in this beautiful and engaging film.

CHOKHER BALI screens on opening night of IFFLA, April 14 at 6:30 pm at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, followed by a gala reception.

The full festival program will be announced later in March.

IFFLA first annual gala film tribute will honor award-winning Indian actress Kirron Kher. Ms. Kher will join the festival on April 15 for an intimate evening that will provide insight into her success as one of India's leading ladies of screen and stage.

The event includes a pre-screening reception in the festival hospitality suite at the ArcLight Cinemas, followed by an on-stage discussion and Q&A with Ms. Kher about her outstanding career. The evening concludes with a screening of KHAMOSH PANI (Silent Waters), directed by Sabiha Sumar, for which Kirron Kher won the Silver Leopard for Best Actress at the 2003 Locarno Film Festival. The festival will also screen BARIWALI (The Lady of the House) directed by Rituparno Ghosh. Cinephiles, star watchers and partygoers will not want to miss this exciting event!
Both CHOKER BALI had its International debut in Lcarno and Toronto
