Changing the World Through Film Focus at SONscreen Film Festival

SONscreen is an annual film festival for Christian young adults and industry professionals who use or have an interest in creating outstanding film and video productions for outreach, social awareness and uplifting creative entertainment. The festival provides an outlet for works to be screened to a live audience and for the best works to be recognized.
Silver Springs, MD (PRweb) March 30, 2007 -- 'Changing the World 24 frames per second', the new perpetual theme of the SONscreen Film Festival is a reference to the speed of film and also reflects the festival's emphasis on visual ministry. "It is important to our strategic plan that the theme of the festival reference our purpose. We want entrants to know we are looking for films that matter," said Stacia D. Wright, SONscreen Producer and Founder. The festival takes place April 12-14, 2007 at the AMP studios in Simi Valley, CA.

The festival opens Thursday night, with the screening of the award-winning film "Secret of the Cave," based on the book of the same title by well-known author Arthur S. Maxwell. It is a story of discovery, adventure and coming of age. On Friday, three concurrent workshops will be presented in morning and afternoon sessions. Workshops this year include "Writing for the Screen: A Storyteller's Secrets" with Chris Riley of ACTONE, Inc.; "Surviving Your First Year in Hollywood", a panel style workshop with panelists Karen Kirkland of Nickelodeon's Writing Fellowship program; Melody George, Filmmaker; Nathan Huber, Asst. to Kevin Bright, Bright-San Productions (Producer of "Gilmore Girls"); and moderator Vivionne Keli, Casting director and former actor; and "Acting for the Camera" with Tannis Hanson, Actress. Friday evening will feature screenings of films in competition and special presentations of other works not in competition.

The theme for the Saturday Panel is "Creating Media That Matters". Panelists include John K. Bucher, Jr. Filmmaker/ Executive Director, Damah Film Festival; Oscar Daniels, Filmmaker / Sundance "Official Selection" for "Among Thieves", Paul Kim, Documentary filmmaker / MFA candidate, American University; Andrea Wiley, Director "SOULMATE", Clean Heart Production and TV sitcom writer; and moderator Rik Swartzwelder, Filmmaker.

Festival organizers include George Johnson, the new Executive Producer and Stacia D. Wright, Producer and Founder, both of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists; Jonathan Dulan, CEO Unreel Communications; Stephen Eyer, Film and TV instructor, Pacific Union College; Paul Kim, Filmmaker; Nathan Nazario, President, Motion Picture Pro Studios; April Rushing, President, Rushing Media; and Rik Swartzwelder, Filmmaker.
