Cannes Fest in brief

The Jury of Un Certain Regard will be presided by Monte Hellman.

The Jury of the Golden Camera will be presided by Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne.

The Actor's MasterClass will be given on Friday, May 19th by Gena Rowlands.

The Music MasterClass by Alexandre Desplat, in dialogue with Jacques Audiard, will take place on Sunday, May 21st.

The Cinema MasterClass will be hosted by Sydney Pollack on Thursday, May 25th. On this occasion he will present his documentary SKETCHES OF FRANK GEHRY.

A brand-new exhibit devoted to Sergei M. Eisenstein will present, in counterpoint to the better known work of the director, a collection of his erotic drawings. The programme will culminate with the screening of October (1927) and Bezhin Meadow (1937).

For Europe Day on Tuesday, May 23rd: the Festival de Cannes will welcome, along with the European Commission, the European Ministers of Culture as well as motion-pictures celebrities, on the theme: "European films go global".

- The Atelier has selected 18 film projects to enable them to complete their financing during the Festival.

- All the Cinemas of the World is offering an exhibition showcase for their film production to 7 new countries: Russia, Israel, Singapore, Switzerland, Venezuela, Tunisia and Chile.

- The International Village, centre for the promotion of the world film industries, is welcoming eleven new countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Hong-Kong, India, Morocco, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Thailand.

- The Short Film Corner, dedicated to their promotion, presents 800 works from nearly fifty countries, for the most part unreleased, and holds numerous thematic roundtables.
