Aspen Filmfest renamed Aspen Film

The long-time, nationally recognized film arts organization, Aspen Filmfest, known for its festivals, film series and education programs, announces its official organizational name change to Aspen Film. The new name will debut at the upcoming Academy Screenings two-week-long film series (Dec 18 – Jan 1), a showcase for the most anticipated features and documentaries leading into Academy Award season.

In the works for over a year, the move to Aspen Film will distinguish the year-round parent organization from its seasonal events including Aspen Shortsfest, Aspen Filmfest, Academy Screenings and summerFILMS, as well as numerous educational programs. Individual event and program names will not be altered.

This name change comes at a pivotal time in the organization’s development. “We are nearing our 30th year as a thriving organization that operates many film programs all year long,” explains executive director Laura Thielen. “While our festivals and film series enjoy a high profile, we also present numerous other community programs including extensive youth outreach. We believe it is important to clarify our organizational scope and mission for the public. Aspen Film enables us to strengthen the distinction between parent organization and the events produced under its banner. As each event grows and continues to develop its own unique following, its flourishing individual personality will be supported by a strong over-reaching identity, Aspen Film.”

Developed in collaboration with Aspen Film board members, staff and Words Pictures Colours Graphic Design, the new name and graphic system captures the vibrancy and vitality of the organization through a diversity of colors and youthful, yet sophisticated typography. Each event, including the educational outreach arm, will be identified by its own unique color palette. The use of a “film clapper” motif—partnering both with the primary organizational logo and each secondary event logo—provides a clear tie-in to film and a consistent but flexible application for all event materials such as program brochures, posters, ads, etc. as well as merchandise.

A non-profit organization presenting festivals, film series, and youth education programs year-round, Aspen Film is made possible in part by the generosity of The Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine Kaye Foundation, The City of Aspen and Reel People: The Friends of Aspen Film.
