AFI FEST 2005 presented by Audi completed its packed first weekend, with a full slate of star-studded screenings and special events. Among the most notable were parties for Andy Garcia's theatrical directorial debut, THE LOST CITY; the period piece ghost story AN AMERICAN HAUNTING, starring Donald Sutherland; and Felicity Huffman's TRANSAMERICA--which brought out the DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star's husband, William H. Macy, and all of her gorgeous co-stars. Other Festival attendees included Alan Cumming, Patrick Swayze, James D'Arcy, director Roger Spottiswoode, Steven Bauer and, of course, Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix, who walked the red carpet for the Opening Night Gala presentation of their new film, WALK THE LINE.

Screenings on November 7, 2005, included the US Premiere of Tommy Lee Jones' directorial debut, THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA, at the Egyptian Theatre; Marquette Williams' documentary BUCKLE BROTHERS; and the US Premiere of writer/director Jeff Stanzler's SORRY, HATERS, starring Robin Wright Penn. With a diverse lineup that includes 127 films from 44 different countries, there is truly something for everyone at this year's Festival, continuing through November 13 at ArcLight Hollywood.
